A good Drywall installation starts behind the boards with a straight and strong framing foundation. Studs are graded for suitability when selecting butt joint placement locations and the the boards are carefully placed with all joints at suitable stress free locations.
Joint edges are carved into a clean taper to allow for good adhesion of the prefill material and allow for a tighter and flatter seam resistant to cracking.

Drywall Installation

Prefill and Taping
Mudding begins with prefilling the joints with a plaster based compound to ensure that the tape will have a solid substrate to lay down on. This prevents voids and bubbles and future repairs. Then tape is applied to the seams to achieve a seamless paper bond over the entire drywall substrate.

Mudding
Mudding or coating is the next step in the process. 3 coats of mud are applied using either mechanical tools or hand finishing equipment.

Sanding
Sanding is essentially the final chance to make the new drywall system as perfect as humanly possible, and 90% of any drywall finish is dependent on a carefully executed final sand. Corners are detailed by hand with an inspection light and fine tuned for a smooth paint line / corner transition.
